2020
New work by Devon Guild Members
12 September - 1 November 2020
The makers in this exhibition are just a small selection of the 250+ Members who make up the Devon Guild of Craftsmen. We have grown from a handful of Devon-based craftspeople who in 1955 made it their mission to connect local makers by displaying their work together in an annual exhibition.
This show is open to all Full Members of the Devon Guild, and is selected by a committee comprised of Member representatives from a range of craft disciplines and an independent panellist. The summer exhibition (as it is usually known) has continued each year without fail to celebrate the quality of craft and skill of our Membership across the South West.
This year has been a little different however! We named this exhibition 2020 as it has been such an unprecedented year and because we had to change the date from its usual summer slot due to the pandemic.
Lockdown has affected everyone, and small traders and self-employed people have been hit hard. We wanted to explore how the pandemic has affected our makers, so we asked them to share their experiences through their statements which you will find in the Member links below. These may reflect the restrictions, losses, gains, lessons learnt and hopes or goals for the future that have come to light since COVID-19 arrived.
Each year the exceptional skill and creativity of our exhibitors is celebrated through this exhibition, and several awards are given:
President’s Prize is chosen and awarded by Peter Randall-Page RA (President of Devon Guild of Craftsmen).
Selection Committee Award for Excellence is chosen and awarded by the Selection Committee.
Once selected, the winners of these two awards will be identified in the exhibition.
People’s Choice Award is chosen by you! We want to know who you think deserves a prize. So take a look at the amazing craft below, or come to the gallery in Bovey Tracey and place your vote
Peter Randall Page RA opens the exhibition in a digital fashion
We were very pleased to welcome Peter Randall Page RA back to the gallery again, to open the exhibition, as is tradition. To help keep everyone safe, we did not have an official Opening Party, so we have recorded Peter’s message for all to see here. He also announces the winner of the President’s Prize…
