THE PANDEMIC EFFECT

At the start of lockdown it was just more bad news every day. Firstly a commission I had negotiated over a few months was cancelled just days before I was due to get the confirmation. After that were the gradual postponements and subsequent cancellations of all craft events I had booked for the year. I realised that I was not going to be making any money at markets this year so I put all of my focus into my online shop and shifting my main income to selling collections of work in shops and galleries.

For several weeks I was unable to buy any wood so I had to creatively use up my offcuts and remaining wood stocks. I have made many more utensils and fewer large serving boards as a result - and I didn’t even get to the bottom of my offcuts pile!

This pandemic has enabled me to be more resourceful than ever and I enjoyed making new work under no time constraints. Since July, I have found business to be gradually increasing and I am excited to be launching many new pieces of work this summer which were all created during a very surreal period of time.
