Great Big Green Week 2024

8th - 16th June 2024

Did you know that it’s Great Big Green Week coming up?!

The Great Big Green Week (GBGW) is the UK’s biggest ever celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature. This June, people across the country come together to take positive action with their communities; hosting events and activities to inspire others to step up for climate, nature and people, and call on decision makers to create a safer, greener future. Communities will be organising bake sales to bush craft, festivals to football matches, and everything in between!

There will be all sorts of activities and events taking place all week throughout our hometown of Bovey Tracey. Find out how we’ll be celebrating at MAKE Southwest as part of our Green Maker Initiative

During the week at MAKE Southwest

Tuesday 11th - Friday 14th June | Discover Making Area in our Jubilee Gallery

Throughout the week, at our ‘Discover Making’ craft activity area in our Jubilee Gallery, there will be a FREE GBGW-themed activity for you to have a go at.

Make these colourful insects and plants out of scrap and recycled materials.

This is a self-guided activity (instructions will be provided) enabling you to be as creative as you like, but if you fancy the more structured approach, on Wednesday 12th June, 3pm - 4.30pm, our Education Manager, Ian, will be leading the activity!

We are encouraging individuals to leave their creations behind, so we can brighten up the MAKE Southwest tent at the Great Big Green Week Event on Saturday 15 June - where you would then be welcome to collect it!

Keep an eye out for other activities happening with other community groups and organisations during the Great Big Green Week…

  • Recycling talk at the Riverside Community Centre | 12 June, 7.30pm | FREE: come and find out what happens to our rubbish in Teignbridge / Devon, no booking required.

  • Create the Mossy Carpet at National Trust’s Parke | 8 - 16 June, 10.30am - 2.30pm | FREE: drop-in and help the Parke team add to the collaborative art project inspired by moss and made by many people.
