Under the Tree is an annual exhibition that takes place in our Jubilee Gallery at MAKE Southwest. With an informal, sustainable craft fair vibe, it provides a curated, beautiful and welcoming festive shopping experience for our Christmas gift buying customers and visitors, with the added bonus that all proceeds go towards our important craft education work .

The show offers a wide variety of craft disciplines from makers across the UK and is a great opportunity for people to buy quality thoughtful and handmade gifts by talent ed craftspeople and a sustainable and inspiring alternative to the high street and online shopping.

What are we looking for?

We welcome applications from UK based designer-makers, and are looking for: 

  • Beautifully crafted work in a range of prices and sizes to suit different buyers. 

  • Work which is ready to display in our purpose-built professionally curated exhibitions space. 

  • Batch produced or one-of-a-kind work. 

  • A variety of different mediums. 

  • Makers with a strong social media presence. 

  • Makers who will reciprocate promotion of the exhibition. 

 

What’s in it for you?

  • MAKE Southwest is an established craft centre – with galleries, a shop, workshop space and café and a membership of makers.  

  • We are an Arts Council funded National Portfolio Organisation with a strong national brand, and a reputation for excellence and quality. Showing with us is great for your brand: your work if selected will be among some of the best in the country and seen by many dedicated craft lovers. 

  • Our exhibitions each on average attract 15-20,000 visitors, with a total annual footfall of over 100K. 

  • Our exhibitions are free to show in and professionally curated by our team. If selected, all you need to do is deliver and collect (or these can be arranged). 

  • MAKE Southwest has a strong social media presence, with 16K+ followers on Instagram and an active digital community. 

  • We will produce and send you marketing information, logos and social media content to us on your own accounts.

EXHIBITION DATES: 24 October 2026 to 9 January 2027

DEADLINE for applications: 11pm,  25  June  2026 (Thursday) 

Outcome emails by: 16 July 2026 (Thursday)  

Delivery dates for jewellery: by 26 September (Saturday) 

Delivery dates for all other work: 1-3 October (Thursday – Saturday) 

Opening Party: 23 October, 6-8pm 

Collection or posting dates: 12 – 15 January 2027 

 

How to apply

Please note that we expect the work/range you apply with will be the work you deliver, or very similar to it. Any work which arrives and was not selected may not be displayed.

You will be asked for: 

  • Name, trading name, contact details and social media tags (website, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter) 

  • Artist CV, artist statement, (pdf, doc, docx) 

  • Retail prices, inclusive of our 50% commission (or contracted Maker Member commission) (pdf, doc, docx, xls, xlsx, jpg, jpeg) 

  • Quick description of your best sellers, with their retail prices (inclusive of our commission).  Please include an image of these in the image section. 

  • 6 images, with description and retail price (inclusive of our commission) 

Images must be 1-10MB each. File name must include your name and the number of the image, (e.g., Alex Smith 1). 
File types accepted: jpg, jpeg, png 
Presentation of craft and clarity of the photo is very important for selection. If we cannot clearly see the work, we will not be able to accept. 

There is a text section for any additional information about your work. For example, you may want to say that your work is carbon neutral or that you donate 10% of your proceeds to a charity.

Commission rates and delivery 

The gallery commission rate is 50% on any value up to £1000 and 30% over £1000. 

So as an example an item that is £2500 would work out as follows: 

First £1000 - gallery commission (50%) is £500 

Remaining £1500 - gallery commission (30%)  is £450 

Total gallery commission is £950, artists price is £1550 

Delivery costs 

We are happy to organise and pack your unsold work for return delivery or you can collect if you prefer. We ask artists to fund delivery both ways – we can arrange to pay for your return postage from any sales you are due, or you are welcome to organise your own delivery back. For any queries, please contact Flora Pearson (Exhibitions Manager) at flora@makesouthwest.org.uk
