Susie Honnor | Textiles | Devon
In the 1970s Susie Honnor was a rug weaver before a long period working as a teacher intervened. Much later, in January 2022 a newly-built studio space prompted the idea to pursue textile printing and making. She went to the fridge, took out a potato, cut slashes into it, mixed some colours and printed a cushion cover!
Susie experiments in printing with all sorts of items - vegetables, cardboard, wood, hair bands, shoe laces, foam shapes and so on. This low-tech, playful method means that each print, each juxtaposition of colour and every finished item is entirely unique.
She produces her own colour palette using colour fast fabric inks and sustainability is at the heart of her business, with a range that includes curtains, cushions, totes, lampshades and zipped bags.
When designing Susie starts with an idea but likes to improvise, keeping the creative process fresh and alive. Inspiration comes from travel, indigenous pattern making, nature and her local environment of Dartmoor.
Susie has never had any formal art training but has always been a maker.
