Thomas J Ridley

Thomas J Ridley | Sculpture | Devon

Thomas J Ridley’s artwork explores contemporary themes using traditional sculpting, mould making and casting methods; modelling his sculpture by hand in clay, wax and modern sculpting materials, he then moulds and casts them into either bronze, bronze resin or plaster. After which he patinates the cast or paints the cast realistically.

He graduated from his figurative sculpture degree in 1991 at the City &Guilds of London Art School where he was taught by the renowned figure sculpting tutors Allan Sly and Kim Amis.

After graduating, in order to support his multi discipline art practice, he became what is known as a jobbing sculptor and has worked as a toy designer and maker, as a lead freelance portrait and body sculptor for Madame Tussauds for 19 years and more recently as a caricature sculptor for three seasons of Spitting Image and as a portrait sculptor for Wade waxworks Bridport Dorset.

Thomas currently lives in Totnes Devon, where from his studio he is working on a new series of small sculptures and paintings, a series of illustrated short stories (some based in Totnes) and four Graphic novelettes.
