Kevin Wright
Kevin Wright | Printmaking | Devon
Kevin Wright is a printmaker who practices the traditional techniques of etching and aquatint. His imagery is printed from hand-drawn copper plates onto heavyweight cotton paper, thus ensuring the longevity of the work. His printmaking studio is in Galmpton, near the River Dart.
Born in Torquay, Kevin studied art locally and then completed a Master’s degree at Goldsmith’s College University of London and a Master’s degree in the History of Art at Birkbeck College, University of London.
Romanticism guides his work, both in terms of his fascination with the sudden strangeness of Nature and his interest in capturing timeless moments in cities.
He creates etchings and aquatints of the moors and coastline of Devon. Dartmoor in its various moods and weathers features in his work. The sea and coast of Devon also figure, with images often initially captured from his sailing boat.
His fascination with creating images of places in Venice and London stem from his earlier days when he spent many years running regular art exchange programmes between the two cities.
