Debby Mason
Debby Mason | Printmaking | Devon
Debby is an international artist who has a BA (Hons) degree in Printmaking. Her work has been exhibited in Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions, featured in scientific publications and she has had numerous solo exhibitions around the world.
Inspired as a child by rock-pooling, stories of sea creatures and The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau, she developed a fascination for marine life and later learnt to scuba dive in Plymouth Sound. Her curiosity is constantly fired by the underwater world.
Marine conservation plays a fundamental role. When she was four, the 1967 Torrey Canyon oil spill had a big impact on her, remembering walking along Cornish beaches getting tar on her feet, made her realise how destructive environmental disasters can be and how vulnerable and fragile marine life is. The sale of her work helps ZSL,Project Seahorse conservation programmes and the Fishermen’s Mission.
She is a member of The Marine Biological Association and feels most strongly that we constantly take and profit from the sea, and put very little of any good back into it.
