Free Machine Embroidery Techniques to Make an Embroidered, Lined Zip Pouch

Workshop with SarahB

Thursday 24 August 2023, 10.30am - 4.30pm

£80

Venue: MAKE Southwest

Suitable for: Adults

Level: All levels

Join Sarah B to learn about free machine embroidery techniques as well as a number of textile construction skills.

You will design and create your own embroidered label to be used to 'brand' the embellished zip pouch that you make.

As well as learning how to draw with the sewing machine you'll learn about: safe practice, fabrics, ironing & pressing (not the same), interfacing, zip insertion, lining an item, under stitching, bagging-out, stitch tension and the use of different sewing feet.

It isn't a problem if you're not a confident artist as there are ways to get around any drawing insecurities while designs are worked out at the start of the day. If time allows there may be an opportunity to make a sew-on badge, brooch or key-charm by embroidering on water soluble fabric towards the end of the day...or, by then, you may perhaps have ideas of your own that you'd like to explore.

Fabric, thread and zips will be supplied but if you want to work with specific colours it may be wise to bring your own cloth and haberdashery. The zip-pouch pattern/template measures 257mm x 403mm. The lining fabric that will be available has a water-resistant finish.

On the Day

All materials will be provided.

On arrival, please make your way to the side gate of the Riverside Mill, through the courtyard and up the stone stairs on the side of the building. Please let us know if you require the lift.

Please be aware that you cannot use the Co-op car park for all day parking. The Methodist Church car park and Station Road car park usually have plenty of spaces
