An Introduction to Expressionist Photography

Workshop with Valda Bailey

Part of the Responding to Light photography events collection.

Saturday 21 October 2023, 10am - 4pm

£120

Venue: Bude Surf Life Saving Club

Suitable for: Adults

Photographer Valda Bailey leads a one-day photography masterclass in Bude, Cornwall.

Join Valda Bailey in Bude as she demonstrates how you can use your camera to go beyond the act of merely replicating what is in front of the lens. She will talk about how you can use camera movement and multiple exposure to turn the most mundane elements in to expressive abstraction. Let your imagination run free. Use your camera to paint with light and colour. You will need a camera that offers multiple exposure facility and/or any camera with a neutral density filter (for Intentional Camera Movement). If you wish to learn about multiple exposure but your camera does not have this facility, then an iPhone will work (not Android unfortunately)

Meet at Bude Surf Life Saving Club at 10am, please bring camera, memory cards, spare batteries, sensible footwear and waterproofs, and a packed lunch (there are also local cafes).

This event is part of a programme of talks and workshops around the exhibition Responding to Light: the diversity of modern photography, at MAKE Southwest, 16 September - 4 November 2023.

The exhibition will showcase some of the huge range of techniques, subjects, and skills associated with contemporary British photography, including digital and analogue technologies, in large and small scales, 2D and 3D forms.

There is an extensive programme of events around this exhibition, including talks and masterclasses with most of the exhibitors. Please see our other events.

Please note, we have a specific cancellation policy for all events associated with this exhibition due to the distances speakers will be travelling. View cancellation policy HERE.
