For the past five years Professor Peter Oakley has been collaborating with colleagues at Thammasat University on a series of research and engagement projects examining and supporting traditional craft weaving in rural Thailand. Peter will be giving a presentation at MAKE Southwest explaining the results. In addition to the presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to handle some of the woven samples from the archived Thai Textiles collection as well as other textiles made by Thai weavers.

Peter Oakley is Professor in Material Culture, Director of the Sustainable Practices in the Anthropocene (SPA) Research Lab and Co-Lead of the Material Engagements Research Cluster (MERC) at the Royal College of Art. He specialises in ethnographic, experiential, and object-based research. His academic expertise covers anthropology, creative practice, science and technology studies, and industrial heritage.

 

On the Evening

On arrival, please make your way to the side gate of the Riverside Mill, through the courtyard and up the stone stairs on the side of the building. Please let us know if you require the lift.
