Will Shakspeare

Maker Showcase

Glass

Will Shakspeare is one of the country's best known glass blowers. He has been featured regularly in the press and on TV. Will set up Shakspeare Glass over 25 years ago and has supplied many galleries and well-known stores in that time. He has also worked in Central and South America as a consultant in glass production and design for various NGO's.

For this showcase, Will is planning some old favourites and some new work: “This showcase is a moment in time. There are favourites here, ranges that have been honed over the years, and there are new pieces.”

About the exhibitor

Will Shakspeare | Glass | Somerset

Will, of Shakspeare Glass, is a glass blower and creates design led work inspired by his surrounding in his riverside studio in Langport, Somerset.

Will makes a wide range of different designs which are constantly evolving.

He deliberately designs glass with a random factor, an aspect that is beyond his control. He uses colour so that it affects the final shape of the piece in a natural and fluid way. In doing this he has to work with the glass rather than completely imposing his own constrictions.

Glass, as he knows it, is a fluid material and he reflects that in his work.

Through each piece Will’s inspiration from the world around him is evident, his surroundings and experiences being inextricably linked to his work. However the making, the history, the ideas are only a part. Just as important is what each piece says to you as you hold and look at it.
