Making It: Lace Making Demonstration with Joëlle Paulson

Saturday 18 March 2023, 2-5pm | FREE

Join Making It exhibitor Joëlle Paulson who will be demonstrating how she makes large scale shuttle lace using 3D-printed tools.  She will be working on one of her lampshades made of recycled cotton throughout the afternoon in our Jubilee Gallery.

Joëlle has been making lace since she was a teenager and has been endlessly fascinated by the intricate webs of threads. Initially making traditional lace, she eventually found that she wanted to explore new ways to use lace in design. Recently, while studying for her MA in Design, she was able to explore new techniques which enabled her to create tools for making large-scale lace with cord and rope to give it strength and durability. Lace could then become furniture and furnishings. Joëlle has also used lace in ceramics and in concrete and continues to look for ways to combine lace with contemporary visual ideas.

No booking required.
