GMI Seconds Sale

Green Maker Initiative

Saturday 14 January 2023, 11am - 4pm | FREE

Our very own Green Maker Initiative will be taking over the Jubilee Gallery (MAKE Southwest, Riverside Mill), between exhibitions, for a one-day sale of one-off items.

What’s a seconds sale?

A ‘second’ is an imperfect item that can be sold at a discounted rate. They might have wobble in the shape, a bubble in the glaze, a wonky stitch, a mark on the print, but they are still handcrafted and beautiful pieces.

Why a seconds sale?

In the run up to Christmas we know that many of our makers will be very busy making lots of work for various Christmas shows and fairs. In many craft disciplines, when working to complete orders of higher volumes and looming deadlines, mistakes can happen and imperfections can arise, meaning some items may not meet your exacting personal standards.

For our makers we want to provide an opportunity to sell any less than perfect work that didn't make it into the Christmas fairs and prevent seconds ending up in a studio bin. For our customers we want to encourage continuing to buy handmade, even in the increasingly difficult financial times, by offering a lower price point for perfectly imperfect craft. All in a month which is famously slow selling for handcrafted items.
