The Isles - Shetland
An exhibition showcasing a new body of work by MAKE Southwest printmaker, Robin Mackenzie and illustrator, Katy Harrald, inspired by the remote isles of Shetland.
Exploring the hidden voes, dramatic cliffs and seabird colonies, the two artists (and married couple) have created work that highlights the interplay between landscape and the birds and wildlife that have made these dynamic islands their home.
Prints, paintings and drawings have materialised from initial plein-air sketches and first hand observations whilst walking the fascinating archipelago.

About the exhibitors
Robin Mackenzie
Robin is an illustrator and printmaker specialising in the crafts of linocut and wood engraving. He graduated from Arts University Bournemouth in 2013 and has since gone on to create prints for The National Trust, The BBC, Ardbeg Whiskey, SAGA cruises and many others. He regularly exhibits his work around the UK and is an elected member of The Society of Wood Engravers. He created all the wood blocks for the film about Eric Ravilious, ‘Drawn to War’.
Robin works from his studio in Dorset using a traditional cast iron Albion Press to produce his prints and through his personal work he explores the British coast and landscape. Robin runs printmaking courses throughout the year from his studio and around the country.
Katy Harrald
Katy Harrald is a traditional pencil artist and illustrator based in Dorset specialising in highly detailed wildlife and botanical artworks.
She was raised in the New Forest and along the South Coast. As such, her work has evolved naturally to become a celebration of British nature and coastal treasures.
Katy discovered her love for pencil and graphite whilst studying for her degree in Illustration at the Arts University Bournemouth, adoring their simplicity, and ability to produce complex detail and atmosphere.
Since graduating in 2014, Katy has exhibited work both in the UK and abroad, producing work for solo shows, group exhibitions, charitable organisations, international magazines, books, and private collections.
