Patricia Dixon
Patricia Dixon | Glass | Devon
Patricia is a designer-maker whose practice is rooted in material exploration, visual storytelling, and collaboration. Trained in textile design, her work has developed through education, community engagement, and site-specific commissions, and now centres on contemporary stained glass. This shift allows her to bring together her long-standing interest in pattern, surface, and layered imagery with the transformative qualities of light and transparency.
She has built a varied freelance practice working across schools-based arts education, international participatory projects, residencies, and commissions within community, heritage, and commercial settings. Much of her work has taken place within historic environments, where she responds sensitively to place, archive, and narrative while re-imagining source material in a contemporary context.
Her site-specific commissions include lead artist roles for the National Trust and the University of Birmingham, as well as residencies such as This Is Britain at Croome Park and Gallery 37 in Chicago.
Her current stained glass practice builds on this experience, layering screen-printed, painted, and cut glass to create works that sit between graphic collage and architectural surface. Drawing on historical reference, pattern, and material memory, her aim is to create new contexts for traditional techniques, allowing light to activate form, texture, and meaning within each piece.
