Rob Sollis | Ceramics | Devon
Rob Sollis has been potting since his school days in Kent. In 1984, he started my apprenticeship at Dartington Pottery Training Workshop, in glorious Devon.
Finishing four years of intensive training, he took a job in Norway, production throwing ceramics for a potter there and for a number of years exported biscuit ware across the North Sea.
In 1991, he set up Fishacre Pottery near Totnes and spent four great years there. Those early years were rich with enthusiasm and youth and before long he was making pots using Raku firing techniques. With this body of work, he quickly became collectable, selling Studio Art ceramics under his own name for the first time.
For the past six years he’s been living and working in Combinteignhead - a fourteenth-century village near Newton Abbot. Every day he can hear the 'Dodbrook' stream as it flows past the old Blacksmith's 'inney '- now his pottery - as it runs down to the river Teign, converging at the Coombe Cellars pub.
His studio is such an idyllic spot to work and make pots, deep in the heart of rural Devon.
