Reece Ingram
Reece Ingram | Ceramics | Cornwall
Reece’s interest lies in form, mass, weight and the tactile nature of objects.
He carves in stone and wood and sculpts in clay.
He enjoys the engagement with these materials, Carving is a simple, repetitive act where there is a direct connection with the solid physical world. He would also like to express a sense of the inner self, simple contentment, not wanting, not striving but just being.
In 2012 He began to play with clay. A different process to carving but still an opportunity to express his love of form. He is also enjoying the immediacy of the material which allows him to work through ideas more quickly than carving. It sets aside some of the preciousness he associates with carving.
Carving and Clay work complement each other, they feed and develop the other
He has been commissioned to make sculpture for many public spaces throughout the country. Most notably the Princess Diana Memorial Playground in London, Grizedale Forest , the Eden Project and the 2012 Olympics
He briefly worked as a taxidermist before studying Sculpture at Brighton College of Art in 1985 and then completing an MA in Site Specific Sculpture at Wimbledon School of Art.
