Nigel Eveleigh | Ceramics | Devon

Nigel has been working with clay for some 26 years after taking a ceramics and glass degree course at Southport Collage of Art.

He has lived in Devon for twenty years in a very old, rustic, listed farmhouse that houses a gallery, workshop/studio and teaching space.

He continues to create work that is different, challenging himself with new ideas both in form and materials, his inspirations are taken from his thoughts at the time of making and he invites the viewer to see his finished work as ‘one off works of art’.

Nigel makes an eclectic mix of work from small pots to large sculptural pieces all of which are unique and individual.

They are developed and hand-built from his years of experience and knowledge using intuitive spontaneous methods leaving the makers marks when possible in different clay bodies for originality.

Layers of slips and glazes are applied by hand adding texture and hand burnishing allowing areas for the smoke to penetrate leaving its own creativeness.

The work is fired in a home made brick built kiln and sawdust fired for those magical moments of just letting go!
