Princetown Press

Princetown Press | Letterpress | Devon

Princetown Press creates botanical ink artwork and letterpress publications.

Working from a heritage letterpress studio in Princetown, the press combines traditional printmaking techniques with wild colour chemistry to make place-based work that documents specific landscapes through the seasons. Using local materials foraged from Dartmoor – oak galls, rowan berries, nettles, and other seasonal plants.

Each piece is literally made from the place it depicts. The natural evolution of wild inks over time – shifting and deepening like the seasons themselves – is embraced as a philosophical feature rather than a flaw. Princetown Press's work includes fine art botanical portraits, pamphlets exploring Dartmoor's seasonal plants, and commissioned publications.

The press teaches botanical ink-making and letterpress printing through workshops, webinars, and creative retreats, helping others reconnect with place through patient, hands-on making practices rooted in seasonal rhythms.
