Helen Snell's work investigates the complex legacy of maritime history, especially pre and post-colonial narratives.
Using digital and analogue processes, including laser cutting, digital embroidery and 3D printing to explore the concept of the multiple & issues of authorship. Helen uses the intrinsic value of the material and edition size as markers of a political agenda.
Recent residencies include The National Museum of the Royal Navy, Portsmouth Historic Dockyards, Fleet Air Arm Museum, Explosion Museum of Naval Firepower, The Admiralty Library, The Cottonian Collection (designated) Plymouth, Hartlepool Museum, Buckland Abbey, The Captain Cook Memorial Museum Whitby, Whitby Museum, The Box Plymouth.
Helen has also worked with the National Trust at Buckland Abbey and Stoke Sub Hamdon Priory.
