Amy Goodwin*

Amy Goodwin | Lettering | Cornwall

A traditional signwriter and fairground artist, Amy's work is heavily influenced by growing up travelling steam fairgrounds in the West Country. As such, the elaborate and visual typography, flamboyant colours and meticulous lines synonymous with the fairground are reflected in the signs she creates, both to commission and for exhibitions. All her work is undertaken using traditional methods – by hand, using no tape nor digital assistance.

In 2020 Amy was awarded a Practice-Led PhD for her work re-establishing the identities of fairground females. This project culminated in the creation of an illustrative archive which used signwriting to illustratively tell stories of the females' lives.

Amy lectures on MA Illustration (Online) at Falmouth University and on BA Illustration at Arts University Bournemouth and the University of Plymouth.

Her work has been exhibited and printed internationally, including at the Yale Centre for British Art, the V&A Museum, London Craft Week and in London galleries, including Dalla Rosa, APT & Guest Projects. She is a Curatorial Trustee of the Fairground Heritage Trust.
