Guest Maker: Steve Robinson
Retail Gallery 12th June - 27th July
Steve Robinson works in kiln-formed glass, using techniques he has developed as a professional artist since graduating in Glass from the University of Wolverhampton as a mature student in the 1990s.
Steve specialises in the use of enamels, which he fires into the glass to create original works in vibrant colours and unique effects. He particularly enjoys taking inspiration from oceanic themes and marine life to create designs with movement and fluidity.
For this showcase, Steve is exhibiting new work from his Sea Duster series. In creating these, he was inspired by the ‘Feather Duster’ sea worm – a fascinating creature living in tropical series.
After kiln firing, the edges of the bowls and freestanding panels are painstakingly ground with a series of diamond pads on a flatbed machine to give a beautiful polished finish.
Steve’s portfolio includes freestanding sculptures, garden artwork, feature windows and commissions for corporate clients including John Lewis, Hilton Hotel, Kraft Foods and NHS Trusts.
In 2010 Steve was awarded the Gold Prize for Glass in the Craft and Design Magazine awards, and is a selected member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen and the Crafts Council Directory of Makers.
