Guest Maker: Maya Ullman

14th July- 24th August 2023 Retail Gallery

Maya Ullman is an established jewellery designer and artist. Her carbon-neutral studio and gallery are located on the banks of the Penryn River, surrounded by the breathtaking seascapes of Cornwall. Raised in a family of artists, Maya studied contemporary art at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem. She is a member of the Cornwall Craft Association and the Falmouth Guild, actively participating in the vibrant creative community.

Each piece of jewellery is meticulously handcrafted by Maya herself in her waterside studio. She specialises in bespoke and personalised designs, guided by a strong commitment to sustainability. Maya has developed a unique silversmithing technique that embodies her ethos of repurposing old heirlooms, transforming them into fresh and contemporary creations.

Maya welcomes customers to bring their unused jewellery, which she skilfully reshapes instead of sourcing new materials. In her signature 'Raw' and textured style Maya shapes the melted silver and gold as if with a paintbrush, resulting in free-flowing, expressive forms reminiscent of the lines you see in her sketches and drawings.

Every piece of jewellery tells a story, serving as a token of love and friendship. Maya preserves and cherishes the sentimental value, allowing it to be celebrated and enjoyed once again.

For her upcoming exhibition, Maya has unveiled a new collection inspired by the captivating turquoise colours of the Cornish sea. The powerful allure of turquoise gems beautifully complements the softness and purity of pearls, a classic combination treasured by ancient cultures. Maya's distinct 'Raw' and playful style is showcased through asymmetrical jewellery, using recycled silver and eco gold to create organic shapes that are truly one-of-a-kind. Some pieces in the collection offer modular and versatile features, allowing you to personalise your jewellery by unclipping pendants and swapping components.
