Katie Allen is a Shepherd and Maker based in Gloucestershire who designs and makes knitwear grown, spun and handcrafted within South West England - traceable right back to her flock of rare breed sheep. Under her brand Loopy Ewes, she aims to connect us with the knowledge that clothes come from farming, just like food.

As the farmer, designer and garment producer for her knitwear, she takes responsibility for each stage of production - from getting her hands dirty in the field, to fully fashioning each garment on her knitting machine. She uses shepherding processes that honour soil health and biodiversity to encourage a wholesome farmed environment, alongside careful attention to slow, hand-crafted production.

She celebrates the natural colours and textures within her flock to create distinctive pieces; either South West England Fibreshed accredited using her undyed fibres, or incorporating vibrant, organically dyed colour.

Her hand-crafted knitwear demonstrates how British wool can be grown regeneratively, simply and locally processed, resulting in clothing that is beautiful, honest and good for the earth.
