Iona Hall, silversmith and jeweller, graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 2018 and Bishopsland in 2019. Iona's box work inspires a compulsion to pick her pieces up, a personal keepsake that demands further exploration from the viewer. Her pieces create an intimate space between the viewer and the object. They are made to hold, use and be discovered from many angles, as the design has been considered for both exterior and interior. Silver can be manipulated and transformed from a flat sheet to a 3D object, the box design coming to life with exterior and interior surfaces, and compartments. Her jewellery designs are extensions of pattern and shape explored in the boxes and acknowledge external environmental perceptions and internal sensory thoughts.
Iona’s degree piece ‘Seaweed Motion Box’ was nominated for the Silver Award at Schoonoven, Netherlands, exhibiting amongst respected silversmiths internationally. Whilst at Bishopsland ‘Reflection box’ won the Bronze Award from Goldsmiths and she was awarded the Goldsmiths Bullion Precious Metals Bursary 2018 to make her ‘Channels Box’. Iona’s ‘Echo Box’ won two awards from Goldsmiths in 2021.
Iona has exhibited in multiple renowned exhibitions for example Elements, Edinburgh, Hammerclub in Holland and Dundee, Frieburg Silver Museum, Germany, Goldsmiths, London.
