Sustainable Pottery Talk + Q&A
with Jodie Crook-Giles
Wednesday 22 January 2025, 5.45pm - 7pm
FREE
Venue: MAKE Southwest, Workshop Space (first floor)
Suitable for: MAKE Southwest Maker Members & GMI Members
How can potters reduce impact on climate change?
Join us for an interactive talk about how potters can reduce carbon emissions.
In March and April 2024, MAKE Southwest Maker Member, Jodie Crook-Giles did a Churchill Fellowship, visiting potters and kiln manufacturers in Japan and the USA to research how we can reduce our environmental impact.
This talk and Q&A will bring Jodie's research to life, she will share what she learned on her adventures, through primary research, and facilitate a conversation on the practical actions we can take in our own practice. With around 80% of studio pottery carbon emissions coming from the firing, there will be a focus on kiln efficiency, the energy sources we use and what we can do about these.
This will be an upbeat and hopeful evening of learning and honest conversation, to help us become more informed and resilient as makers.
5.45pm: Networking and Drinks
6pm: Talk by Jodie Crook-Giles
6.40pm: Q&A
7pm: Depart
This event is FREE for MAKE Southwest Maker Members and members of the Green Maker Initiative.
