Green Maker Initiative Season

November 2024 - January 2025

We are excited to announce a three-month celebration of sustainable craft with our Green Maker Initiative!

We’ve got a host of activities, events and exhibitions themed around the natural world and championing sustainable craft.

We’ll be promoting sustainable techniques, materials and methods within the craft sector.

GMI Bookshelf

We’ve set up a cosy little area of our shop dedicated to the Green Maker Initiative. Grab a seat on the bench, and watch the GMI films or bury your head in a book about sustainable craft.

Some of our personal favourites are:

  • How to be a Craftivist by Sarah Corbett

  • The Green Imperative by Victor Papanek

  • Fewer, Better Things by Glenn Adamson

Materials Exchange (from Tue 5 Nov)

Our materials exchange is back!

Makers are encouraged to bring in any materials they don’t want or no longer need, and are free to take whatever they like from the range of previously donated items. Examples of what might be on offer:

  • Suede off cuts

  • PVC scraps

  • Paper maps

Activities & Events

Green Maker Initiative Event

On Saturday 9 November, 10am - 4pm, our very own Green Maker Initiative will be taking over the Jubilee Gallery (MAKE Southwest, Riverside Mill), between exhibitions, for another craft fair with the emphasis on sustainability.

12 of our Pledged Green Makers will be selling their sustainable craft, from ceramics and jewellery to textiles and glass. The makers will choose whether they are selling seconds or if they are representing sustainability in their creative practice and process, but one thing is for sure, you’ll be able to get your hands on some beautiful handmade craft.

We’ll also have a number of activities happening throughout the day…

  • Sewing workshop with The Sockists Project

  • Printmaking drop in

  • Blacksmith demo

  • Willow Weaving demo

  • Recycled Paper Puppets workshop (Children & Families)
