Reviving Riverside with The National Lottery Heritage Fund
We are thrilled to announce The National Lottery Heritage Fund has awarded MAKE Southwest £127k for our project: Reviving Riverside!
Using money raised by National Lottery players, The National Lottery Heritage Fund supports projects that connect people and communities with the UK’s heritage. Reviving Riverside is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we will be able to make vital upgrades to Riverside Mill.
Work on the project will soon begin: we will be carrying out urgent repairs to Riverside Mill, including retiling the roof with insulation, and replacing fascias, soffits, and any necessary timber work to ensure the building is watertight.
Additionally, a historical researcher will produce a report on the Mill's early water technology, highlighting its significance as the provider of running water to Bridge House and its stables 50 years before piped water arrived in Bovey Tracey — defining the role of Riverside Mill in the town’s industrial history.
Further to this, an interpretation board with details about the Mill and its history will be installed across the river for public viewing.
The funding will also allow us to engage an archivist to assess our on-site archive, before moving it to the Devon Records Office — helping us to plan for future conservation of the Riverside Mill.
