The box is handmade by Edward Wild in Macassar Ebony and is lined with rippled Sycamore. The form of the box is inspired by the butterfly subject and follows a Japanese aesthetic with clean elegant lines. The Macassar Ebony used in this box is ‘old source’ wood which came into the country in the 1960s. Gillie Hoyte Byrom has exquisitely hand painted the Peacock butterfly decoration with vitreous enamel on engraved silver with 24k keum boo.
