Shadow Puppets
The audience watches the shadows cast by puppets onto a screen, creating silhouettes. Shadow puppets are often, but not always, 2D shapes, but complex effects can be achieved by using colour and distance.
The simplest form of shadow puppets is hand shadow shapes and these simple shadow puppets can be made and performed at home. Asian traditional shadow puppets have been made for centuries, where this exquisite art form is a very skilled job, and puppets are often used to tell epic religious tales.
Examples of shadow puppets in this exhibition include Hansel and Gretel made and performed by the Clockwork Moth.
