Cathy is a printmaker focussing on relief print producing both reduction and multi block linocut and woodcut prints. She also incorporates other mediums such as monoprint and screenprint which add layers and texture to her work.
From her home studio she designs the blocks which are then printed on presses at the Double Elephant Print Workshop in Exeter. She makes small editions of her work which demonstrate her interest in strong shape, colour and line resulting in a graphic and contemporary style.
The inspiration for her work comes from the natural environment and the Southwest Coastline. Ideas are informed by visiting and re-evaluating nature through sketches and drawings before realising a final design. Reference to memory is also key, where perceived notions of place are altered and reworked into an abstraction of the land, capturing an essence of place rather than a pure representation of it. She is also drawn to illustrate some figurative elements which connect the landscape to its locality and so bridge the gap between reality and imagination.
For Cathy the process of printmaking is "engaging and dynamic where a simple design can be transformed into an image which is quite distinct in its form."
