Stitch Rectangles of Cloth and Master Your Sewing Machine

Workshop with SarahB

Wednesday 15 November 2023, 10.30am - 4.30pm

£80

Venue: MAKE Southwest

Suitable for: Adults

Level: Beginner

Join MAKE Southwest member SarahB to learn the basics of how a sewing machine works by stitching wonderful things with rectangles.

This course will show you how to get the most from your sewing machine with MAKE Southwest’s new Janome machines. Sarah will explain aspects of their operation by demonstrating simple stitch challenges with rectangles of cloth that will increase your stitching skills, sewing confidence and knowledge.

You will be taught about: stitch tension; sewing feet; machine functions (sewing a button hole; dropping the feed dog; use of the free-arm; multiple stitch types; presser-foot pressure; bobbin winding); fabric types including interfacing and Bondaweb as well as seam types.

The rectangles sewn on the day will make: a tote bag with french seams, a zip pouch bag with embroidery and a belt ... as well as possibly other samples.

This workshop will start with discussion using demonstration samples as the talking point. Participants are welcome to make the day work for them by following or adapting the programme as they wish dependent on their skill level.

This course has been designed at an entry/intermediate level.
