Lisa McEleny | Mixed Media | Devon

Lisa McEleny is a Devon based artist who explores themes of ageing and decay, representing ourselves as ephemeral or transient beings. In 2024 she completed a BA (Hons) in Craft and Material Practices at Arts University Plymouth, winning a MAKE Southwest Graduate award. She was since awarded the Winner of the QEST Making It Award for Craft Innovation.

Central to all her work is a home-grown element, such as wheatgrass and chia, which is manipulated, interacted and merged with other materials, such as latex, plaster, ceramics and metals. A codependency with nature is embodied through Lisa’s work, through slowly nurturing and manipulating natural materials. Whilst most work evolves into delicate, white porcelain with uncomplicated embellishments or unique statement jewellery, some work is allowed to decay and return to the earth. This allows for the life cycle of the material to be completed and demonstrates her desire to work more sustainably, through producing less waste.

As an emerging maker, Lisa is keen to continue exhibiting and collaborating with like-minded artists and makers.
