The inspiration for Gillian’s work comes from experimenting with the natural materials that she usually finds in her environment, materials that she collects and accumulates in vast quantities.
She then uses a variety of traditional skills such as: stripping, splitting, charring and steaming of wood, drying of berries and seaweed, to transform these materials into contemporary artworks.
She is fascinated by the alchemy of the processes she uses and is continually surprised by the results.
Gillian’s work can be of a permanent or transient nature, reflecting her preoccupation with the passage of time and the fragility and preciousness of life.
Work includes site-specific installation for both interior and exterior spaces.
