Nicky Barton | Jewellery | Devon

Nicky Barton is a jeweller living and working on Dartmoor. She makes jewellery inspired by nature, transposing these textures and surfaces into her jewellery making; reticulating, casting and hammering the surfaces of the silver and sometimes embedding semi-precious stones to reflect the natural colours of her environment. As an environmentalist she only uses recycled silver and gold and ethically sourced stones.

Recently she has produced a body of silver work, cast directly from the rhizomorphs of Honey Fungus (Armillaria mellea). This fungus can have a devastating effect in the garden, however, the resulting Honey Fungus Jewellery Collection is beautiful, visually exciting and dynamic.

Nicky studied BA Hons 3D Design, in Cardiff, graduating with a First Class Degree. She also has an MA in Photography from Plymouth University.

In 2019 Nicky left her long-term Art and Design teaching post at Exeter College in order to focus exclusively on making jewellery.
