Helen Noakes
Helen Noakes | Jewellery | Wiltshire
Contemporary art jeweller Helen Noakes designs and makes tiny worlds from silver and resin, full of emotion - sometimes humorous, sometimes nostalgic, always unique. Her jewellery is collected around the world for its playfulness, detail and sense of surprise. From necklaces with cast silver swimmers captured mid-stroke, to rings with penguins wandering across icy resin, or bangles stamped with words of courage, each piece carries a story or message of its own.
Helen has come a long way from her upbringing in rural New Zealand. While working in London’s corporate world she found her passion of silver-smithing through courses at Kensington and Chelsea College. A chance discovery of a single set of scale models gave Helen the quandary of how she could make them into lasting keep-sakes. She began teaching herself resin techniques after being given a book about resin. Her career switch became a certainty and she has been making her jewellery in Wiltshire for the last 20 years.
Helen brings an element of humour which is intriguingly tucked into each beautifully executed and infinitely wearable piece, making a second look a must. Her work is featured in several books, she exhibits and sells worldwide and also teaches jewellery making from her studio near Salisbury.
