Richard Buckingham
Richard Buckingham | Furniture | Cornwall
Since graduating with a degree in Furniture Design and Craftsmanship in 1994 from Buckinghamshire College of Higher Education, Richard has been involved in many aspects of the Furniture industry.
The Arts and Crafts ethos was deeply embedded in the course and the two job roles that Richard had on leaving college continued to nurture the hand-crafted aspect of furniture making. He was also introduced to modern techniques and aspects of fitted furniture.
2005 saw Richard take up a teaching position, becoming a lecturer on the City and Guilds Furniture Course based at Cornwall College. He continued this role until 2018 when he left to work permanently from his workshop in Coverack on the Lizard Peninsula.
Alongside running short courses concentrating on all aspects of working with hand tools, Richard now creates Art Deco influenced furniture and decorative mirrors using a combination of traditional and modern techniques combining a variety of materials. Alongside native solid timbers, this also includes veneers, serpentine and mother of pearl, though the use of patinated copper has been a signature of his since the very earliest pieces.
