Sarah Shorthouse is a Devon based ceramicist.
Her work is inspired by natural geological forms found in the surrounding landscape and her vessels reflect an instinctual response to clay. She uses a mixture of hand building and thrown forms which are cut, altered and re reassembled to create her vessels.
The firing process is intrinsic to her work using both wood and gas firing techniques to achieve the colours of her pots.
After residencies in South Korea and Japan, her work reflects that experience with her use of Shino and ash glaze on clay bodies.
