I am a pattern designer and paper lampshade maker based in Devon. I hand carve lino prints onto sustainable papers. Using these papers, I then make them into lampshades.
The collection of lampshades for MAKE Southwest captures my love for bold geometrics. The pattern changes direction depending on the angle of the lampshade shape. I’ve used chalky colours of ochre, burnt sienna and denim blue to suit the winter season.
My lampshades are available in coolie and empire shapes and range in sizes from wall lights to large table and floor lamps. I also up-cycle old frames and rings.
I made a conscious decision to work with Lokta and Mitsumata papers, as they are a renewable resource. The papers are smooth, ideal to block print onto, but still have a texture which adds to the character of the lampshade. I handprint patterns using water based inks and mix my own palette which gives me flexibility to achieve any colour. As well as using my own designs, I make raffia lampshades and shades using specialist decorative papers sourced from Italy and India.
