Do you have a favourite pair of trousers or a much-loved top that's in need of repair? Join Sigrid Verschraeghen (from The Loom, The Stitch and The Wardrobe) at MAKE Southwest and learn how to give your cherished clothes a new lease of life with simple, practical mending techniques.
This hands-on workshop focuses on basic clothing repairs to help keep the favourite pieces in your wardrobe wearable for longer.
You'll learn how to:
Sew on buttons
Repair hems
Patch worn or damaged areas
Mend rips, tears and holes
Cover stains and worn areas with patches and/or creative visible mending techniques
Using a combination of hand-sewing and sewing machine techniques (where appropriate), you'll explore simple repairs as well as creative patching and darning methods that are both practical and decorative.
Please bring several items of clothing to work on for the workshop duration.
On the Day
All tools and materials will be provided, but do bring your own sewing kit, threads and fabrics for patching if you have them. Please wear comfortable / old clothes. Aprons will be provided if needed.
Tea, coffee and biscuits are included and will be available on the day. There will be a short lunch break during the workshop and participants are welcome to bring a packed lunch. Our Café is also open should you wish to purchase other refreshments during the workshop.

On arrival, please enter the building via the shop, follow the arrows to ‘Education Space’, through the smaller galleries, at the rear of the building on the ground floor.
Please be aware that you cannot use the Co-op car park for all day parking. The Methodist Church car park and Station Road car park usually have plenty of spaces. Click here for more information on our location and car parking for the day.
