A Green Maker Initiative Workshop
Come along to MAKE Southwest for a day learning about free-machine embroidery in the context of making small gifts and ornamental pieces suitable for the Christmas tree, mantelpiece or festive table, with MAKE Southwest Maker Member, SarahB.
Learn how to turn a sewing machine into a drawing tool to create your own expressive pieces in thread on natural fibre cloth supplied by the tutor. As a technique free machine embroidery is a lot of fun and has instant appeal once mastered. Students have the option to take this day in whatever direction they choose once they’ve learnt the basics.
You will be introduced to the wonders of working with washaway fabric and washaway thread as part of the introduction to an exciting day of embroidery.
By the day’s end learners will be intrigued by the new creative possibilities that have been made known to them and the new personal skill they can now practice independently and share with family and friends.
Free machine embroidery aka. ‘free motion embroidery’ or ‘free machining’ is a delightful stitching method that usually has people converted instantly.
Participants mustn’t doubt their drawing ability as the unique qualities inherent in this sewing method always make for successful results.
Bring your creative ideas along with you as well as any fabrics, threads and sewing equipment (like sharp scissors) that you may particularly want to use.
