A Green Maker Initiative Workshop

Brilliant, enthusiastic tutor. Was thrilled to create a really beautiful broom.”

”I thought it was a great half day, and the tutor made a real effort to thoroughly teach the basics. She couldn’t have done better.

Gather together this December in the magical MAKE Southwest workshop space and weave your own hand broom to give as a gift or to treat yourself in this intimate 2.5 hour workshop!

Numbers will be kept low so each student receives the support required. Students will choose their broom shape and style, and tie it all up with the twine colour of your choice. You will leave with a beautiful broom that actually cleans. A thoughtful and unusual gift for that person who has everything!

Students will learn the fundamentals of heritage handcrafted brooms (a pre-industrial heritage craft that uses no machinery and no electricity), as well as the processing and handling of fibre, various twine types, and other options available to broomcrafters in the UK.

These pretty brooms are perfect for smaller spaces: potting sheds, artist studios, kitchen counters, camper vans, hearths, and book shelves - keep any small space tidy and looking lush!

A broom made by you and unlike any other. Perfect for festive gift giving and year round tidying.

Please note: broom making is a surprisingly physical craft and each broom is constructed in one sitting with one continuous length of twine. Students should be prepared to work with shoes off (socks are fine) and seated in a chair for up to an hour, possibly more (feel free to use the cushions provided).

Broom craft requires strength and dexterity in both hands and feet. Be prepared to engage your core, hands, arms, legs and back for extended periods. Broom making can be a real work-out!

Age restricted to 18+ (knives, razor blades, and lighters in use) or 16+ with an adult.
