Print A Cloudscape From Your Own Design - Follow up Cloudscape Reduction Print Workshop with Steve Manning

The reduction printmaking process, unlike multi-block printing, uses only one block of lino to produce a finished image. It can be a challenging discipline as the block is destroyed with each stage of the process. But with careful planning the end results can be very satisfying.

Suitable for those who have taken part in the Cloud Reduction Print Workshop or those with some experience of lino printmaking.

Aim:

This workshop will enable participants to create their own cloudscape print from their own design employing techniques and approaches learned on the Cloudscape Workshop.

By the end of the workshop participants will have created one or more small cloudscape print using the lino reduction printmaking process.

Learning outcomes:

Participants will understand how to:

  • create a workable cloudscape design

  • transfer their design to the lino block

  • cut a design from a lino block

  • use the reduction printmaking process

  • to overlay inks

  • effectively roll ink onto a block

  • register an image to paper using Ternes Burton registration method

  • apply the image to paper using hand burnishing

    On the day:

Please bring a drawing or photograph of your chosen cloudscape(s) to be produced as a lino print of no more than A5 size (14 x 21cm).

About Steve

I am an Exeter based printmaker inspired by the big skies, wetlands and moors of the South West. My work endeavours to represent these ephemeral landscapes using a medium usually associated with bold blocks of colour. I use reduction printing, mono print techniques and various methods of ink thinning to achieve a lightness of touch often described as ‘painterly’.

The creation of my prints is a painstaking exercise using a medium not entirely suited to rendering the fleeting nature of my chosen subject matter!

I should be a water colourist but I love the combination of craft and fine art printmaking offers.

On the Day

All tools and materials will be provided.

Please bring a drawing or photograph of your chosen cloudscape(s) to be produced as a lino print of no more than A5 size (14 x 21cm).
