UNEARTHED
A collaborative project by Arts University Plymouth’s 2nd year BA (Hons) Textile Design students.
This work is the conclusion of a collaborative project with 2nd year BA (hons) Textile Design students at Arts University Plymouth, called ‘Ideas and Audience’, RAMM and MAKE Southwest.
The aim of this project was to provide the students with the opportunity to extend the reach of their work by considering the relationship between ideas, outcomes, and the potential audiences as receivers of their work within a given context.
The students were invited to visit RAMM (The Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery) in January to view their world-class collection and archive as their creative starting point. Each student then commenced an in-depth research and visual investigation that focused on historical value, place of origin (paying particular attention to archaeological artefacts found in the Southwest) as well as the physical appearance of the objects they were looking at.
In response to these objects, the students were encouraged to explore the stories behind them and then design and make a length of textiles in response. The final outcomes would then form part of a collective exhibition, for display here at MAKE Southwest.
This is the first opportunity for the students to create and exhibit work towards specific audiences outside of the university setting, giving them exciting, industry relevant and professional experiences as part of their design education journey.
