New Ceramic Skills Opportunity Coming to Riverside Mill
Bovey Tracey Town Council is partnering with MAKE Southwest to offer new ceramic skills learning opportunities at the historic Riverside Mill. The project builds on the town’s strong pottery heritage and addresses a clear lack of specialist ceramic facilities for local schools, community groups, and emerging makers.
The new space will be equipped with ceramic wheels and professional tools, enabling a programme of workshops, school sessions, and hands-on experiences led by expert makers. These activities will support skills development, creativity, wellbeing, and progression into further learning or employment. They will also enhance Bovey Tracey’s growing reputation as a centre for craft and help preserve specialist craft skills for future generations.
Learn how to throw on a potters wheel in this FREE short morning taster session!
You will be shown how to centre, cone and form a pot using one of our new throwing wheels.
These short taster sessions are designed for complete beginners - no previous experience of throwing or using clay is necessary!
Throwing a pot can be tricky for very young hands, so we recommend that children who attend are aged 10 years and older.
Please buy a ticket for each participating child or adult. (1 ticket = 1 place on a ceramics wheel.)
All materials and equipment will be provided.
Please note: no outcomes from this taster session will be kept or fired. It is an opportunity to enjoy the experience of throwing and to have fun!
This taster session will be run by MAKE Southwest member and ceramicist Donna White of Dart Pottery.
