She’ll be celebrating her book launch hanging out with us, surrounded by her showcase of ceramics alongside supporting found and natural objects. You’ll have a chance to chat with her about her illustrious ceramics career and get your copy of her book signed.

Here’s what Blandine says about her book:

“I like to mix things up. This book reads as an autobiography, but it is really about the ideas that are formed throughout our lives and linger on in our memories, images that take hold in the psyche and become part of our essential selves, so that whether we like it or not, we return to them again and again.

I have no universal truths to offer. My words will seem extraordinary to some, commonplace to others. They relate only to my personal experience of the world, describing the origins of my own inspiration - the Wood that is ever-present in my psyche.

I have come to realise that we all have our very different ways of seeing the world and each of us has unique life-experiences which are worth relating. I see that it is largely the way in which one looks at things that makes the difference - how one feels deep down, how one perceives inherent beauty, and the spin one puts on it all.

Ideas of any kind don’t conveniently occur at the required moment. Time and ideas are circular rather than linear, like a spinning top or whirlpool, more like a maze or mesh of repeating and overlapping themes than a straight path. Ideas come and go and are recycled in the brain. At times they may be abhorred, rejected, despised, and thrown out forever, only to be revived years or decades later when looked at with new eyes. With an oblique view, a change of approach, alterations in colour, scale, and edge value, new possibilities emerge, and suddenly the once-abandoned idea is fresh with potential.

The passions of childhood have served me well.

The quest for knowledge and the preoccupations of one’s past need not be mutually exclusive. Furthermore, all the most inspiring people I know and have known have themselves been inspired and driven by their obsessions in younger life.”
